Recent remarks by defense secretary Donald Rumsfeld and others indicate there will be no draft. These officials claim today's armed forces are so sophisticated and high tech that too much training is needed to prepare draftees for combat. Don't believe it.
This is history's first global guerrilla war. The main problem in fighting guerrillas is that the troops cannot tell the difference between guerrillas and ordinary farmers, merchants and taxi drivers.
This means there are only two ways to fight a guerrilla war. Either murder the entire population, or comb the whole country doing a village-to-village, house-to-house and room-to-room search for evidence and weapons, as in Vietnam.
Thorough searches require millions of infantry. This leaves Washington with only three alternatives:

    1. Mass extermination.
    2. Draft millions.
    3. Quit the war.

Which do you think they will choose?
